Aether Tower is an unofficial crossover mod that aims to let players use Rivals of Aether characters within Pizza Tower. Rather than rewriting either game, it layers an interaction system on top of both existing titles, allowing the Rivals roster to traverse Pizza Tower’s levels. The project is distributed as a release with xdelta patches and a bridge mod for Rivals of Aether.
Technically, the mod uses a two-process architecture. Rivals of Aether runs in 32-bit mode as a hidden training match, with a bridge mod feeding it Pizza Tower’s input and level geometry while reporting character state, hitboxes, and pixels. Pizza Tower runs patched in 64-bit mode, with GML scripts, a native extension DLL, and an installer that modifies a decompiled project. The two communicate through a shared-memory protocol. The README notes this approach is similar to SkyCraft.
The README acknowledges several limitations. Slopes do not exist in Rivals and were difficult to implement, sometimes causing characters to get stuck. Some Workshop characters have misplaced percentages or nonfunctional projectiles. Transparent effects appear magenta due to chroma keying. Kragg may experience excessive hitstun. The author also states the project was vibe coded with AI assistance, though no AI was used for art or other assets. These caveats indicate the mod remains experimental, with stability varying by character and level.
