BmEditor is a customized build of the UnrealEd editor shipped with the Unreal Development Kit, adapted so that levels and packages from Batman: Arkham City can be opened and modified in a familiar Unreal Engine 3 editing environment. It is not a from-scratch tool; it reuses the existing editor and adjusts it to recognize the game’s assets, so its interface and workflow largely follow UDK conventions.
According to the README, the editor supports custom levels, materials, meshes, animations, and UnrealScript out of the box, and an installer automatically detects Steam and Epic installations. These capability claims come from the project description rather than an independent test report, and no detailed compatibility matrix or known-issues list is provided, so practical coverage for each asset type still needs verification.
Stability is the clearest limitation. The README states that this remains largely the stock UE3 editor, which was never especially stable, and that Arkham City support has not been fully tested. Crashes and bugs are therefore expected, and the author advises saving often. The project is under active development, with progress shared on Discord, and is distinct from the author’s separate gameplay-mod project, BmSDK.
