SkateIV is an experimental mod that brings Skate 3 skating into GTA IV. Rather than rewriting GTA IV, it hosts the Skate 3 Rust engine inside the GTA IV process as a passthrough layer. GTA IV continues to own the world, current player model, clothing, lighting, and traffic, while Skate 3 supplies skating physics and animations. This split lets the mod reuse GTA IV’s city and characters while borrowing Skate 3’s movement feel, but it also means the boundary between the two systems must be coordinated by a translation layer.

Setup requires the user to provide a working GTA IV 1.0.8.0 installation and extracted Xbox 360 Skate 3 files. Setup.cmd converts assets, extracts the GTA map, and builds grind candidates locally. Conversion depends on .NET 8, Python 3.11, and NumPy, and downloads pinned upstream converter and vgmstream decoder archives with hash checks. The README states that the Steam Complete Edition executable and PS3 files are not supported, and that game files are neither included nor downloaded.

The current v0.8.11 build is a development preview. According to the README, collision, grind transfers, shadows, and performance still have known issues. F9 shows grind candidate lines, but a line is only a candidate and does not guarantee a successful grind on every approach. First load can take time, and the intended in-game phone text notification currently does not work. These limitations indicate the mod remains in active development rather than a finished, stable release.
