This project statically recompiles the Amiga game Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe (The Bitmap Brothers, 1990) from 68000 machine code into C, running on a custom Amiga chipset reimplementation for Windows. Unlike traditional emulators, game logic executes as compiled C functions rather than interpreting the original disk code. The README states that no game data is included, and users must supply a specific cracked disk image.
The implementation includes a 68000 decoder, C emitter, and runtime with CPU state management, big-endian memory access, a complete 68000 interpreter for uncompiled or self-modifying code, and Amiga chipset emulation covering beam timing, Copper, bitplanes, sprites, blitter, Paula audio, and CIA timers. Disk access is high-level emulated. The README claims handling of multiple copy-protection layers and self-modifying code, with differential testing of approximately 13,000 instructions passing.
Currently an experimental prototype, the project has no official release. Building requires Visual Studio 2022 and Python, and the loader checks a CRC, rejecting other dumps. While it demonstrates the potential of static recompilation for game preservation, it depends on a specific disk image and development environment, and full gameplay has not been independently verified.
